My holy week was a mix of rest, sleep, fatigue and body ache that was highlighted by a trip to Subic. It began on a Good Friday, after spending the whole of Thursday trying to catch up on missed sleep, when we went to Cavite to visit ate Dol. After leaving the kids with ate Weng, we were on the road to look for a good pool to spend time with the following weekend. After visiting several good and not so good resorts, we found ourselves on the road to Tagaytay instead.
Tagaytay's cool air and relaxing atmosphere is a welcome respite to the sweltering heat of the city. The traffic going into Tagaytay was fast, going out of the place was going to be a problem. We settled for a familiar corner at Starbucks and enjoyed the view of the Taal. That's when the talk of the next adventure began to unfold.
The girls were talking about going to a beach, somewhere south, the following day. I suggested we go up north, to Subic instead. Why not? So I called up Jun to ask for the directions. Pare, saan ka?.. O dito kami Tagaytay.. Ganun ba, nasa Tagaytay din kami, let's meet in a few minutes.
We met halfway and I mentioned to Jun that we are planning to go to Subic. When? Tomorrow early morning! Jun gave me the directions and said that they were planning to go to Quezon naman.
On the way back to Makati, I got a text message from Jun. Pare, punta rin kami ng Subic! Ok, so let's all go to Subic, the more the merrier :) We arranged for the transpo, bought food, and prepared all the stuff that we needed to bring. We finished packing by midnight. Good, we still have time to sleep, like 4 hours of it before the van comes to fetch us.
Our trip to Subic went from Makati to Calumpit, Bulacan (to fetch my mom), to Guagua Pampanga (to fetch my yaya's sister), to Olongapo city proper (where we got lost), to Oceanview, just outside the city, where we met Jun and the rest of the gang.
Charles enjoyed the beach, I enjoyed the food. But something's missing. I went up to the bankero and asked if there's a place he could bring us where we can snorkle, enjoy the corals and swim. He said there's a good place called Pulo, just across the beach.
The group went to Pulo, and found that it's a just a small isle, with no real beach, and a lot of rock formations. So I asked the bankero to bring us someplace else, like the middle of the sea where we can snorkle, and swim. He brought us about 1 km from the beach and we went off the banka in our life jackets and snorkling gears.
Geeze, there were no corals, just a handful of fish, and a lot of sea urchins. Not a good place. We looked up and saw the boat drifting away from us (Look ma, no anchor!). The guys were having fun swimming in their lifevest.. or so I thought.
Collectively, somebody somehow thought to swim from where we were down to the shore. It seemed near when you look at it, but when you are swimming against a current (I think it's more like drifting), it became an effort. The fun factor went from 10 to 3.
I signalled the bankero to come and fetch us. Half of the group stayed near the boat, half went for the shore. Going back to the boat was frustrating, there's no ladder to step on and our energy was already spent swimming. It took a while before we were all up back at the boat (well, half of us), and half of the group where almost near the shore. We can see that they were tired but there wasn't any choice because they were already nearer to the beach than to the boat (Plus the bankero went to other way instead of trying to pass by the rest of gang to rescue them, geeze). The rest of the group made it to the beach, tired and salinated.
The rest of the day was uneventful, except that I stayed seated at the car for the next 5 hours on the way back to Manila, which further stressed my already herniated discs. Ouch.
Pictures to follow!

On a side note, I just got my standard issue desktop, all Quad-Core of it. Now, let's see how many virtual pc's I can push into it. Software testing can be stressful :)

I'm still at lost at what deck to play in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering, City Champs tournament. The last tournament was a complete disaster for me. Sucks not to know the current metagame :P
