My M:TG top 4 experience

Sunday was the Pre-Shadowmoor triple-treat Magic:The Gathering tournament at Robinson's Galleria. There were 3 formats in that event, and I chose to play the Extended format.

The game started a bit late, and there were only 6 players (including me) in that format. Other formats (Standard and Block constructed) had around 50 players or so. In short, I am already at the top 6 even before the start of the tournament! The less players, the better chances of me winning a free pass to next week's Shadowmoor Pre-release.

I had really good matches from rounds 1 to 3, and I'm starting to feel confident about my deck. After 3 rounds, I was the only undefeated player in our pod. Then my next opponent started the game with, Pare, lakas ng deck mo ah, mukhang talo ako dyan. And I was like, Hindi tol, beginner's luck lang.

So we proceeded with the game and I lost 2 straight games to lose the round. So much for beginner's luck! After the game, I said to that player, Lakas mo kasi bumati eh!

The last round is a win or nothing round. I was playing against a mirror (we have almost the same deck configurations). I lost game 1 and started to have a good game 2 opening. Opponent is down to 1 life, until the board stalled. My deck ran out of gas, and the opponent took the opportunity to pummel his way to victory.

I finished the event with 3 wins and 2 losses, good enough to share the 3rd and 4th spot.
