Week 1: Got the unit from the Philips warehouse in Pasig. Tested the DVD using S-video, then shifted to a better component video cable (YPbPr). The unit has 2 HDMI inputs as well but we don't have an HDMI source yet, so we'll have to settle for blue-ray copies on DVD-9 media. I didn't get a separate sound source since the TV alreadyincludes a nice surround sound feature.
Week 2: Got the unit mounted on the wall. Next step is the cable subscription. I had to extend the coaxial cable connection from the first floor up to our bedroom. Went through the ceiling, through the roof and drilled a hole in the aircon duct. As I was able to crimp the cable and put on the connectors, I noticed something different. The cable my aunt gave me looked very unusual. At first, it had the feel of a regular, albeit thinner, coaxial cable. When I took off the insulator, it became more apparent. It's not a coaxial cable after all! It's a thick copper cable. Damn! All the hard work for naught :P I'll have to reschedule the trip back to the ceiling. Sigh. (Note to self: Next time, inspect the cable first)
Week 3: Set up the Asus EEE PC as a digital multimedia source. I used a regular VGA male to male connector and a regular 3.5mm steriod jack to hook up the umpc to the TV's PC inputs. Configured the best resolution possible at 60hz rate. The videos are all located in a separate computer with a multimedia folder that is shared via Wifi. Also, I had several videos stored in an 80 GB external HDD connected to the Eee PC via USB.
Control is done wirelessly via an I-equip remote. It's a presentation clicker, except that it also has a feature that let's you control the mouse and has all mouse clicks, alt-tab, esc, page-up, page-down keys. Pretty convenient :)
Being wireless also enables us to enjoy watching Youtube and streaming videos online (veoh.com, etc).
The Setup: 37" Philips LCD TV and Asus EEE PC
The multimedia: Asus EEE PC with an external HDD and a wireless control.
The big red circle in the remote controls the mouse.
